The logistics industry comprises many moving pieces that all need to work in sync with each other to ensure a smooth and timely operation. When bottlenecks occur, the end result is a loss of money as the business grinds to a halt.
A logistic company approached Codes Consult with this very issue. After taking our time to review their operation including talking to all the actors involved, we presented them with a range of software solutions. These were:
- A pre-made commercial ERP package aimed at the logistics industry. We worked with them to review each one, and got in touch with the developers to understand exactly what it would take for the systems to be modified to add some missing essential features.
- Creating a new ERP management system from scratch. While the benefits of this would be that it was customised to their exact business needs, this option would take longer to implement and have a greater cost.
- Customising an existing open-source ERP system to better fit their needs. This option would reduce development and implementation time as existing features could be built on and adapted.
After a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each option, the logistics company asked us to customise the existing open-source ERP system. Now fully operational, this customised system is helping them to better track their processes, regulate their costs and increase their productivity and efficiency.
